Was told to replace all my discs and brake pads too a few weeks back when I did my MOT. Tight on money atm so decided to do it myself and I’m glad that I did because I saved myself a lot of money, only paid for parts and then a few hours of my time. Ordered the whole set from AutoDoc and the total was £220 for Bosch parts, so not exactly budget either. Also, garages with cheapest quotes might opt to use budget parts which could end up squeaking etc, so just keep that in mind, but I’d say do it yourself if you wanna save the most money.
Best Brake pads for Audi TT
EBC red with Girodisc rotors has been working really well for me so far.
My pad in recent years has been EBC red. Better initial bite than OEM, no fade, no dust, no noise. If you track, EBC yellow might be a better choice but they tend to squeal at low speed. My only negative opinion is Hawk HPS which had scary bad initial bite when cold. They were OK after a few stops.
I managed to get my hand on a set of MK1 Audi TT front and rear brakes for a steal, also round the corner to my work which was even better. This takes my front brakes from 288mm up to 312mm and takes my rear brakes from 232mm solid discs to 256mm vented discs.
Stoptech Rotors and SS Brakelines, Tyrolsport Caliper Guides and Hawk HPS pads.
My EBC red pads do dust but no where near as bad as OEM
FWIW - I used EBC yellows with S3 single piston calipers on the track with both my A3 and now my TT. The EBC usually only lasted one track weekend, prone to brake fad, and ate up the rotors (both stock and StopTech) pretty bad. I have Pagid RSL29 now on the front (with EBC rotors), and they are fantastic on the track. I didnt realize how much the yellows under-performed until I got the Pagids. Just passing it along...
I have installed Porsche calipers 996.352.425/6 calipers on the front of my MK1 TT with stock sized 12.3" discs with Hawk HPS pads and SS lines.
I’ve used EBC on my previous TTs, lasted 3/4 of day at Limerock
I have the ebc reds they are good but smh at the people saying they are not dusty. they are worst pads i have ever had for producing dust.
