The previous Gates belt looked completely fine, and probably could have lasted another 10 years.
Owner reviews for timing belt
Ran the brand in my old 93 MX6 V6. No issues with the parts.
I'm running one in my mildly modified 93 civic and it's fine. No leaks or noises.
I had the belt service done on my 2015 last year at a shop in my area and it was about $900 parts & labor using Aisin brand belt & accessories as I specified. Consensus on the Pilot owners' forum is to use either Honda OEM or Aisin brand parts only.
I just had my timing belt and water pump replaced as well, but I bought the Aisin kit myself off of Rockauto.com for around $270.
They recommend 10 years or 120k miles I pushed mine till 11years and 160k miles but when I removed my original belt it had a significant crack in it from dry rotting
I only use Mitsuboshi brand timing belts, even on built Subarus.
I've been using a Gates belt on my weekend toy for the past 5,000 hard, abusive miles with no catastrophic failure. I did have their water pump fail internally in under 1,000 miles. Replaced with Subaru OEM.
Hab mich doof gespart und Ridex Zahnriemen verbaut. Hat unglaubliche 40Tkm gehalten. Darf jetzt für ne teure Motor-Reparatur nachzahlen. Für alle Neulinge und Reddit-Weisen: haltet Abstand von Ridex.
After just snapping one in my Audi A4 B7, I had to rebuild that entire head. Total pain in the ass. The factory belt lasted 15 years, 175k miles before it let go.
