LIQUI MOLY Engine oil

5k or less with Liquimoly. Just had oil pan and upper timing cover replaced at 123k miles (plastic parts leak/ fail bc of heat cycles) and my timing chain looked like new, and not one spec of metal or debris on the bottom end. Unitronic stage 1+ since 75k miles.

Pros: timing chain looked new
Cons: plastic parts leak
Vehicle: Audi A3
Mileage: 123000 km

MOTUL Engine oil

I send an oil sample to Blackstone Labs every single time I change the oil or the dealer changes the oil. As part of that analysis, I pay the few extra bucks for a TBN calculation. On my SQ5 and S3, after running a fill for 10k to 12k, those TBN values always come back greater than 1.0 indicating that there’s still enough remaining additives to continue running that fill for even more miles still.

Pros: TBN values greater than 1.0
Vehicle: Audi SQ5
Mileage: 10000 km

Shell Engine oil

The same oil goes into all GDI engines at my dealer, which is Shell Helix Ultra SP 0W-20. This is a super expensive, latest spec oil. Oil changes with this oil are done at 9320 miles if turbocharged and 18 640 miles if naturally aspirated.

Pros: latest spec oil, long intervals
Cons: super expensive
Mileage: 15019 km

Castrol Engine oil

I have an MX-5 with that engine, Mazda uses Castrol Edge 0w20 but you can use a heavier oil and sime say it reduces wear. The purpose of the 20 weight is fuel economy.

Pros: reduces wear
Cons: fuel economy
Vehicle: Mazda

AMSOIL Engine oil

I run Amsoil in my 100% in my vehicles and lawn equipment. It’s synthetic, uniform, and has low volatility unlike petroleum based products. Less frequent oil changes.

Pros: synthetic, low volatility
Cons: less frequent oil changes
