The automatic is absolutely brilliant. The ZF8 is amazing, especially for tracking. I’ve had several people, including professional drivers, drive mine and they’ve been nothing but impressed. I’ve had mine since 2021, before MT was an option. I never even considered trading for an MT (and budget is not an issue).
Owner reviews for automatic transmission
The auto is amazing. Sometimes I wish I had an auto instead because the ZF is so good.
The ZF8 is one of the best automatic transmissions in the game.
The ZF8 is a great transmission. Automatic vs Manual is entirely subjective for this platform and in my opinion it depends on what you want to do with the car.
Manual? Great for a stock/low power canyon carver.
Auto? Great for high power, tracking, racing, etc.
Obviously the above *can* apply to both cars. You really can't go wrong with either choice. If you're coming from driving manual sports cars you *might* be disappointed.
The auto box sometimes seems to lag to put the power down when entering roundabouts. I’ve learnt to adapt to it and it is not a problem
A former GM engineer talked in detail about how he was pressured to cheapen the transmissions of existing cars every single model year. GM's relentless cheapening made it worse year after year. That's the culture you're betting on when you buy a GM product.
Auto trans are almost never worth putting work into and better off replacing imo.
A consistent 3rd gen complaint is the automatic which hunts for gears.
350hp to the wheels is far too much for an early 4l60e with stock internals. Especially if it has more than 4 miles on it currently.
the worst 4 speed slush box known to man.
