K&N Air filter

After I swapped to a K&N drop-in filter and a lighter cat-back exhaust (the one I had was lighter than the stock), I was getting around 22-24 MPG with my EcoBoost.

Pros: better MPG, lighter than stock

K&N Air filter

I have had the washable type. Seemed like a lot of extra money and time to maybe get an extra horse and maybe fuel economy. I had just cleaned the filter and had to go somewhere. I threw in a fram air filter and didnt notice anything different.

Cons: extra money, extra time

All the tests I've seen suggest the K&N's allow more dirt through than a paper filter. You also have to clean and re-oil them periodically. If you use too much oil you might be looking at a new MAF sensor which can't take oil contamination.

There's no performance difference over a paper filter.

Cons: allows more dirt, needs cleaning
