I had one for seven years and 80k miles and the only problem I had was the A/C compressor. It was two years out of warranty and Honda went 50/50 with me on it. I drove the piss out of it, multiple trips to the redline every day, etc., and it was flawless mechanically and never burned oil or made any unhappy noises.
Owner reviews for AC compressor
i have been running a VR6 compressor on my ABA for 4 years now and no problems with it spinning the "wrong" way its just like an alternator can spin in any direction because of its construction
I had searched everywhere and found a lot of stuff but upon doing it myself I felt like I ran across to many questions that could have been answered. This is an age old modification(can it even be called one) but I would like to refresh the memories of those who can't remember and shed some light for those about to do it.
So, we picked out a GPD brand compressor from CarID.com, it came in, and he replaced it. I picked the car up, and the AC was working great, but I noticed that when the AC is on, the system makes a very loud noise. It's hard to describe, kind of like a loud rumbling / low screeching. It's pretty loud, and it ramps up with engine RPMs, so I can hear it over the engine even at freeway speeds. My mechanic basically told me that compressors that don't cost a lot make noise. I tried to tell him that it gets louder when I drive faster, but he basically dismissed me, saying that it's normal for cheap air compressors to be this loud. I've been looking over plenty of forum posts from people who have used GPD compressors and never complained about the noise, and though I trust my mechanic, I'm feeling a bit uncertain about this. He advised me to just live with the noise as long as the AC still works, but honestly the noise is so loud I'm not sure I can just 'live with it.'
I ordered the Denso part listed as being compatible after having cross referenced it with Denso's own site along with a new condenser, expansion valve and seals. Receive the order and take it to the shop for installation. They call and say it doesn't fit. The mounting holes on the old one are 133mm apart while the new is 132mm apart. They say the bolt simply won't go in due to it having such small tolerances.
My 2016 wrx has an AC compressor fit for a small drawer or shitty wine fridge. In the summer I can have the AC in full blast for the whole ride and the car never cools off. :(
installed new condenser with dryer. i actually found the problem this weekend. Failed compressor.
Mine just failed at 71,000 kms. Was pushing nothing but warm air.
I owned it ONE day when the AC stopped working. The compressor was an original Zexel.
