Have a 2020 Touring XT. Battery went bad after 5 years so that was normal. No problems other normal wear and tear, tires and brakes.
My 2015 outback has 140k miles. I just did spark plugs and belt, brakes. That's the only maintenance I've ever done other than tires and batteries.
2022 Outback, 144k, never had any problems. Have replaced tires, brakes, and the battery. Follow all mfg recommendations for service. Always dealer serviced. Very happy with mine.
Forester pros: great Cargo space(same as a utility truck), high of the ground, very big windshield with little visibility problems
Battery didn't outright die but it was weaker starting and with winter coming I didn't want to trust it.
I own a 2019 OB Touring with six cylinders. I’m the original owner. I’ve had numerous battery issues, but SOA replaced the DCM Module two years ago, and the battery has been working well so far. In April 2025, SOA also replaced my head unit at no cost to me. Additionally, there was a fuel pump recall several years ago. I get service at a local Subaru dealer, and I’ve been happy with their service. However, the windshields broke once from a stone hitting it, and they’re known for having low-quality windshields. So, I have insurance that covers a 50-dollar copay. Fuel economy isn’t the best, but I enjoy driving it and feel safe in it. Overall, I’m pleased with my car, and the biggest problem was my battery issues, which have been resolved for two years.
My outback has 40k on it and it's already been in the shop to replace the lower oil pan gasket 3 times, and the upper oil pan gasket (which they had to pull the whole motor out to replace!) once. Who knows how many thousands of dollars I would have paid if I didn't have the warranty to get the work done free.
Had 4 Subarus. 3 of them failed - head gaskets of course - the one that did not...lo and behold, was a 6 cylinder! What are the odds? Back at the time I had looked it all up and knew exactly what the situation was.....a defective engine. My vehicles were far enough apart in years and types that I know the defect spanned many more years than initially claimed. I wish my experience was an anecdote. What are the odds, tho....then, that my SIL bought one 7 years later and THAT head gasket went too!
First battery lasted about a year and a half.
