Been running 87 and 5w 40 on my mk7.5 for the last 40k of ownership. She loves it, no tics stutters or hiccups at 65k miles.

For context i bought a 2008 passat estate with 149,000 miles on it for a 27 miles each way commute 3 years ago.
I got it and did a timing belt change straight away which was preventative and for peace of mind.
I bought a MK3 Jetta 2.0 gas just to get me through for a couple months after I crashed my 4Runner. It was one of my favorite cars. Decent power, handled great. Coldest a/c and hottest heat of any car I have ever owned. I put a good set of snow tires on it and it would go anywhere.
We have our 2017 Golf wagon which it getting long in the tooth...timing chain maintenance is coming up very soon... Plus all major fluid changes(DSG, haldex, brake, coolant, etc...), but it runs well.
I have had the Tiguan SEL Turbo for a few weeks now. I was reversing out of a parking spot and the brakes locked up thinking something was behind me. Not a soft brake, I thought I backed up into someone. No car or person there? Did it twice and never again.
ID has had nearly zero running costs except for tires and electricity, and one tie rod end that needed replacement early.
Only thing that ever went wrong with it in 5 years of ownership was the water pump
When I finally bought another car and started preparing the Bora for sale, the alternator failed. The only real issue it ever gave me.
