I had a similar issue, also with my vw golf GTI. Insurance also covered the repair with auto glass. They used OEM and the experience was very good.

I have the seat equivalent - Ibiza ST (Fr spec) with the same engine, yes it's EA111, so keep an out for any signs of the timing chain stretching, however VW did do some what of a fix before introducing EA211. My 1.2 TSI EA111 has 95k miles on it and has never had the chain done and doesn't sound like there's any chain issues. But key is just service it every year properly and check the chain, you'll be fine then.
I did my own brakes, sorta with and without the special tool. My conclusion is that the tool is not strictly needed.
If you are using VW original oil then stick to it and the service interval. 15 years 229,000km later mine is going strong. I did mess up by doing service at 15k km all these years. Sticking to 12k is best. Instead try iftex system D. Makes a very noticeable difference. More important I feel is changing the air filter more often. And compulsorily changing diesel filter every year.
I’ve done this method for 10 years on my tuned 15’ Golf TSI. Since brand new to 150k miles. I change the filter every other oil change... The factory filters are rated for 10,000 miles I don’t see an issue but I do have an issue of leaving oil in that long, which is why I changed it at 5000 mile intervals.
Not an actual issue, but an annoyance: The brakes make weird sounds (like bad-transmission-in-a-transformers-movie- like warbling) and sometimes even feel grainy, but the vw mechanics can never identify anything wrong with them. It’s worse in the cold, but even happens in moderate weather.
I'd just recommend getting a VW oil filter. Some of the aftermarkets are really cheap and can collapse in on themselves.
Rear brake pads are terrible. Lots of brake dust and already at 4 mm at 8k miles. I rarely brake hard and have never need to replace rear brake pads before 100k on any other car.
This thing has been horrible. Leaky head gasket off the factory line, and brakes that wear in 5k miles. Is anyone else in the same boat as me?
My 2024 blew a head gasket at 19k miles.
