We have a 2014 (F56) 2 door, Cooper S, manual. I bought it for my kid pre-pandemic and we've put about 50k km's on it since buying it. Zero issues. We do our own simple maintenance, oil changes, spark plugs, brakes etc and it's no different than any other car really in that respect.

Apart from the usual maintenance when you first get the car, oil change , all filter changes, spark plugs (get iridium 4point) they are around £50-£60 for the 4. They come with them from the factory as well, I just got them myself as mini wanted over £100 for them.
Had same issue on my 2016 R60 Countryman S. My notification for low oil pressure only occurred when I turned left at intersection or roundabout. It was strange. I took a flash light and looked around and engine bay and noticed that there what appeared to be fine misting of engine oil around valve cover toward washer fluid tube. Took Mini into dealership and they discovered that the valve cover gasket on the right side had a crack hence when I turn a certain direction the valve cover would open up just enough to spray oil out and loose pressure. Replaced valve cover and gasket and works perfectly now. Just thought I share if your mini has this weird low oil pressure when you are turning.
Did a regular maintenance at 29K km and 4 y.o. with oil and air filters and stuff for 370 EUR. Maybe even spark plugs, i forgot. Later did a brake fluid change for 70 EUR.
And yes, brake fluid does degrade, the brake pedal felt smoother and more consistent after the change.
The water pump broke (fortunately stuck open so no major damage). The part is RIDICULOUSLY expensive (it looks like an artificial heart) and was on a month-long backorder but everything went smoothly.
06 Mini Cooper S. R53.
Was super fun. Broke down about once every 3-6 months. Power steering pump was first. Then had to replace the entire wiring harness. Then A/C compressor. Then timing chain guides. Then throttle body.
My older brother had a 2012 Mini Cooper S and the timing chain snapped, which is pretty common for this model.
Just paid $305.22 for brake fluid change, that I hope was actually done. On a 2016 mini countryman S.
Just take care that it's full synthetic and not a synthetic blend. I ran a synthetic blend with a strong detergent package in my last mini once to try to clear some sludge, and it was not a good idea, it just exacerbated my problems.
How is your local dealer charging 300$ for an air filter? That feels off to me, our filters cost maybe 60$ and we charge 29.95 install(CAD).
