My roads are also NOT well maintained and the Koni shocks/struts are more comfortable than the M-Sport shocks/struts I started with.

Pros: more comfortable ride

If a 2nd opinion actually confirms that shocks/struts are worn, my approach would be to replace with upgrade - Koni or Bilstein. Not much different than what you're being quoted cost-wise and easily run for 100k mi +. I think my ride/handling improved with Koni Yellow and Eibach springs on my 2019, though it's definitely more GTi/R and less "plush" than stock eGolf.

Pros: improved ride/handling
Cons: less "plush" than stock

Mileage: 55000 km

When I recieved the car, it needed brakes immediately. I then proceeded to go through the whole car. Especially the underside. I removed the entire front and rear suspension along with the rear subframe. Replaced all arms including upgrading to the R129 front lowers which allow clearance for bigger brakes, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, center drag link, engine and trans mounts, C/V axles, flex disc, front and rear brakes and larger rear sway bar with metal links. I lowered the car with H&R non SLS springs and Koni shocks.

Pros: improved handling

Pros: null
Cons: didn’t last

I have Koni yellow shocks and eibach lowering springs and it's really worth the money. The rebound on the yellow's is also adjustable so you can make them softer if you'd like.

Pros: worth the money, adjustable rebound

Had them on for years with swift spec R springs. On 16s with 215/45 tires the ride is about a million times better than stock.

Pros: ride better than stock

I've been using Koni Orange's for nearly as long as I've had my FiST and I like them, but I don't think they are the best option if you plan to track or autox (Koni Yellows would be a better fit for that). I like them because they are more comfortable with the oem springs than the oem shocks.

I think it really depends what you pair them with though. I did try them with eibach springs but I didn't like them there (I found out later because eibachs are softer springs and seem to pair better with bilsteins B8s) . The oranges are intended for oem springs, however I've heard of others liking them lowered with swift springs (which are stiffer than the eibachs)...but I don't have personal experience with the swifts.

Pros: more comfortable with OEM springs
Cons: not ideal for track/autox
Vehicle: Ford Fiesta

I also felt that swapping to Koni shocks in the rear made the car feel better to drive -- the stock rear shocks didn't have much low speed rebound, so the trunk would feel like it was floating if I went over crests. The Konis fixed that.

Pros: car feels better
Cons: stock shocks low rebound
Vehicle: Honda Civic
