I've got some Hankook V12 evo since april and so far I really like them. They stick to the road well and they don't make much noise. Not that great when it's wet thought.
Best Tires for Volkswagen Golf
i run the same size 235/40/17 Nitto Nt01. Awesome, perfect fitment.
I have some decent Kumhos on mine (used to have Gislaved Nordfrost 5 on my MKIV, but they wore very quickly) and my Golf is perfectly fine in the snow.
I've had no issues with all season 17's on mine, but when I put the General Altimax Arctics on the car, it was FANTASTIC.
Saw a Subaru and two Jeep Liberties in ditches today. My lowered, traction control-less and ABS-less Mk.III on studded Hankooks did just fine.
Just drove my mk5 through a winter storm. (quite literally) It performed very well! It has identical handling characteristics to the mk6 Golf. As others have said, it strongly depends on the tires.
Ecsta LX Platnium...running them on my Golf on 18's, love them! quiet, and handle well
I just picked up a set of Yokohama TRZ's for my wifes Golf, as they seemed to be a good all-around choice. She's had them a couple weeks now and they have been great. They feel great in the dry and in the wet, and are much quieter than the OEM Goodyears that they replaced.
My first set of marketed LRR tires were Michelin Energy MXV4+ on my MKIV Golf. Admittedly they were great tires in dry and wet until they had some miles on them and went to hell in a handbasket.
I had Pirelli Winter Carving Edge tires on my MK6 for four winters - they sucked!
