It's hard to find GL4 gear oil anymore. The only real GL4 available in the States seems to be Redline. GL5 oils are generally harsher on brass synchros. I've been using Redline since 2007, when I bought my GTI, and it shifts just as well as it did back then.
I swapped the Hella conversions in on my '87 16V last year. These part numbers worked just fine: Low beams x2 Hella 003177862 HLMP MOD 164X103 H4 High beams HELLA 003177821 164x103mm H1 High Beam Halogen Conversion Headlamp Kit
Water pump you will want to raise the engine to gain access to the water pump. I suggest you use a metal impeller replacement and not a plastic one like the factory original.
I removed the air filter (standard, paper one) and found it clean. I replaced it with a K&N anyway.

They’re TRW rebuilds, it’s possible they’re just bad. I’ve seen weirder coincidences happen on VWs.
Hi! I have a Golf mk6 2009 160hp. I got the Christmas lights at the dash and the dealer said new abs unit for >€1200... I found a guy to repair it (he has repaired lots of units) and when I plugged in the repaired unit all the lights went away.
After a week at the dealer for a throttle body replacement on my 24 Golf R ( flashing check engine, loss of power) the service advisor called and told me the engine needs to be replaced (at 9k miles!)
The new windshield sucked and had distortions in multiple places and around the edges. It was really inferior, irritating, and we never got used to it.
