Went to the junkyard and all they had were two 1990 LA1Z 4-door Jettas. I yanked the one from the later car (had about 110k) and installed it in my GLI without checking or adjusting the pushrod length against my master cylinder. Observations with new booster: 1.) FAR less effort required to apply brakes. With a good booster in the car now, I realize just how ridiculously hard I had to stand on the pedal before. 2.) Pedal height is much higher at initial braking point, probably 50% higher than before.
Volkswagen parts reviews
30+ year old Bilsteins...still damp the rebound nicely too.
The discs and pads actually very good, i have tried EBC pads and discs, zimmermann discs and ebc pads, but none of them as good as the SBS
I've owned this car for a year and stuck alot of money into it and love it but have to part cause i just ordered a RHD rx-7 from japan so i need to make room in the garage and i have to part with my VW its sad but i hope i find a good owner. INFO: 46,000 miles ENEOS oil is good for 22,000 miles they say but i still changed it every 5,000 miles. i also used it in the transmission and i felt a difference just from the oil and will use it now in every car i own.
Last night I finally decided to trash the bosch spark plugs and installed some new NGK spark plugs and while I had my upper intake manifold off I bought a couple cans of throttle body cleaner and gave my upper intake manifold out and also gave my throttle body a real good clean. It was covered in sludge. But anyways after I sea foamed it a couple weeks ago, changed the oil and filter, spark plugs and cleaned the throttle body last night my car is running like a champ and doesn't feel boggy anymore.
I had a set of Kuhmo ECSTA SPT (I think I have all the letters right lol) on our old Jetta and they are great on wet roads. I'll never buy another set of all seasons
A large part of the noise is indeed the tires. They are the OEM contintental touring 235/45-17 and they were inflated to 38lbs. I dropped them to the recommended 35 and the noise and ride improved. I am now realizing that 50% of the sound I'm hearing that is objectionable is indeed these tires.
I have BF Goodrich G-force T/A KDW2 on my GTI... They are FANTASTIC in the rain. I've gone miles and miles at sustained speeds of over 100mph in the rain with no problems whatsoever.
Bosch FR8DC+ perform well and you won't have to worry about seized plugs. You might have to change them sooner.
I could tell driving these in 45 degrees that they had turned to rock and grip was seriously lost. NEVER drive them in the snow.
