Hawk HPS 5.0 Pads + Stoptech cryo-treated rotors - done as part of a total brake rebuild; slightly more bitey than stock, just how I like it.

Once the oil temp reads the temp number, you're all set to do what you please.
Based on the information learned from 40+ pages of reading in that thread, I just installed Koni Yellows and Neuspeed Sport springs on mine. It is now a totally different car. I had been running stock dampers with VWR springs for the last 3 years (zero improvement in handling with VWR springs by the way). The konis are damped / valved nice and taut without being harsh.
Currently running KONI yellow shocks and he sport springs, all poly bushings in the rear, Rs3 and TTRS in the front. Also running Passat spindles and control arms and a rear sway bar from Neuspeed with a UM haldex tune. My car weighs 3000lbs and I can tell you it is about as good as it gets handling wise.
First my intention was only to clean and repaint callipers, but when I've started cleaning I realized that it would be stupid not to rebuild them.
I will will just add that I have a 2L 16V running no oil cooler and an early Mk1 radiator with built-in overflow tank, two pin thermostat, short 5th gear, and the car does fine in a traffic jam and with spirited driving.
Mine has over 200k now, still running the stock turbo. I will probably keep this car for awhile.
My first vw was a 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg with 1.8t. I had the car from new drive it until it had 450k original turbo.
The R8 coils are cheaper then the standard Bosch coils so cheaper if nothing else.
I have a few friends who have MK7 GTI's and all of them complain about their stock brakes on the base model GTI, I wouldn't consider spending money on these units as your not really gaining anything.
