Rating 4.5

I took a chance and got Goodyear Eagle Sport for my 16 Golf. Love them so much I bought another set for my Beetle Conv! It is simply a good overall tire. Very quiet, good ride and decent in the snow.

Pros: good overall, very quiet, good ride, decent in snow

OEM Volkswagen Tires

Overall the I found the GTI was very impressive at a track that doesn't cater to FWD and with terrible 560tw all seasons.

Pros: very impressive
Cons: terrible all seasons
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Pentosin Brake fluid
fat biker
  • Pedal feel:
Rating 5.0

Another shout for the Pentosin Dot 4. There is no good reason to use Dot 3 fluid. VW specs 2 year interval, time, not mileage. Think of routine periodic flushing of the brake fluid like an oil change for your brakes. Good preventive maintenance. Water soaked brake fluid puts expensive ABS hardware at risk for corrosion, failure and significant repair expense.. Flushing the brake fluid is a simple task. Floor jack, jack stands, wrench, clear tube, jar or bottle, nitrile gloves and safety glasses. fat biker

Pros: Good preventive maintenance
Cons: ABS hardware at risk
Vehicle: Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Brake fluid
Spidertri
  • Pedal feel:
Rating 5.0

Just did brake fluid flush myself this past weekend. A Genuine VW 1L bottle from FCP was $13 tacked on to all the other stuff I ordered, and that was plenty of fluid to flush all 4 corners and have some left over. DOT 4 Class 6 was on the bottle. Pedal felt great afterward, I did this as part of the 40k mi service.

Pros: Pedal felt great
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 64373 km

MICHELIN Tires

After the first commute in the rain with the factory all seasons, I purchased a set of Michelin PSAS4. These have done remarkably well here in North Texas. I can highly recommend them. Recently I had my first “panic” stop and they were great. The only thing I won’t take them on is ice (which we get here) but a set of studded tires are a bit overkill here, and probably not legal, so I didn’t drive on the ice.

Pros: remarkably well, great panic stop, highly recommend
Cons: not for ice

Rating 3.0

I have a 2014 Jetta 1.8TSI CPRA in my shop with 115Kmi and a broken timing chain. It's the first I've seen but still a sign of possible trouble with the T-chain on these engines.

Pros: sign of possible trouble
Cons: broken timing chain
Vehicle: Volkswagen Jetta
Mileage: 185075 km

BRIDGESTONE Tires
mpulsiv
  • Grip:
  • Ride comfort:
Rating 1.0

Here's the 18" Cadiz wheels that came off 2015 Golf R. Stock 16" Astana wheels are beyond hideous, they are also heavy (e.g. 21 lbs.). As soon as you mount any sticky tires, irrelevant of size, your range will decrease by ~10%. The sole purpose of low resistance Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus tires is to float due to super firm carcass. These tires are terrible in dry and scary in wet.

Cons: terrible in dry, scary in wet

Hankook Tires

My 2019 GLI came with the Hankook Kinergy GT. On paper it is considered a premium touring tire, but it is not very good. It is mostly dry where I live, but those things break loose at the slightest provocation - cornering, accelerating, etc. I don't know what they are like in the wet; from what I have read, they are not very good.

Cons: break loose easily
