OEM Honda CVT transmission

The CVTs aren't bad, the key thing most people who have needed replacements is lack of maintenance. I've seen Honda Odysseys that have driven as NYC cabs need transmission fluid at 10k cause of the driving.

Pros: not bad if maintained
Cons: requires strict maintenance

OEM Honda Timing belt

That’s actually not a bad price. Paid $1400 at 110k miles for timing belt, coolant change, and water pump at independent shop on the families odyssey. $1850 from dealer don’t sound bad.

Pros: not a bad price
Vehicle: Honda Odyssey
Mileage: 110000 km

Honestly the car drives even better than new after recently replacing the original Bridgestone turanza tires with Michelin cross climates. World of difference. Super happy.

MICHELIN Tires

In Florida, have had Michelin Defender 2 on last two Odysseys. They are rated to go 95,000 miles. So they may cost a little more up front, but a good value over time.

Pros: good value, high mileage rating
Cons: cost a little more
Mileage: 95000 km

OEM Honda Valve cover

I took it to the dealer and they agreed the valve cover was leaking, but that was pretty much it. My warranty is covering it, and costing me $250.

Pros: warranty is covering it
Cons: valve cover was leaking
Vehicle: Honda Odyssey

Bosch Alternator
_Deadlime_
  • Warning light:
Rating 1.5

Everything went well, or so we thought, as he turned on the car it started to slowly smoke. I assume that the ac compressor plug got shorted or was loosely plug bc it was the hardest thing to replug and the fact the ac isn’t blowing cold air anymore. We recharged the battery to 12.4-12.5 v. The alternator was only pulling 13.3-13.7 v with load and without load. Mind you this was a new OES Bosch alternator.

Cons: slowly smoked, low voltage output, AC not working
