Got a quote from an independent shop recommended by my detailer, total was around $2600 for parts and labor for ‘24 X5. It was OEM glass directly from BMW. They also calibrated. Job was done perfectly and had no issues.

Pros: done perfectly, no issues
Vehicle: BMW X5

My X3 windshield was like $2500 with BMW glass. Cheap aftermarket glass was only a few hundred dollars. I pushed my insurance to pay for the real deal.

Pros: real deal, high quality
Cons: high cost
Vehicle: BMW X3

Just had mine replaced through the dealership. I could've used safelight, but I didn't want to chance any issues with the HUD, etc.

Pros: avoided HUD issues

We have had our M440i and drive is seldomly. On a recent road trip, I heard a small stone hit the windshield. This was 4am with hardly any traffic. No damage was seen on it. We parked the car and returned 5 days later to find a huge crack around the rear view mirror. Never seen anything like it. Replacement at the dealer is $2600.

Cons: huge crack appeared, expensive replacement
Vehicle: BMW

Their windshield/glass quality sucks. I had to get two replacement windshields as both had horrible distortion in the driver's field of view.

Cons: poor quality, visual distortion

The timing chain was the first thing to go , which was meant to ‘last the lifetime’ of the car, which in BMW’s eyes was certainly no more than 95k miles. Expensive to fix! Then the air suspension , oh and the brakes also locked whilst at a friend’s house and parked on the drive , had to be dragged off their drive by the rescue lorry. The rear windshield also just spontaneously exploded while parked on my drive.

Cons: windshield exploded
Vehicle: BMW X5
Mileage: 95000 km
