We had Tesla do it on our Y and it went well.
Replaced my cracked windshield. I have Amica insurance with full grace replacement coverage. Simply went to Safelite and explained that I want genuine bmw OE glass. No problem. Just took about a week longer at the time vs generic to get the part in.
My model 3 took some serious hits from rocks with no crack.
Note, I've replaced it with OEM glass, the installer said something from BMW that's the issue, they don't use enough silicon to give the windshield some flex.
I think the glass is just really soft. The windshield on my F82 was completely sandblasted when I bought it. I ended up replacing it with OEM BMW glass and now keep a much wider distance between me and the vehicles in front lol.
2023 X7 3 months old two windshields replaced. At this rate I think I'll need a subscription based windshield service. I've been driving for over 30 years, had Ford, Mercedes, Toyota, Doge, and other cars. Not a single chip or crack ever. With the beemer - got hit by a rock twice, each time big chips and immediate crack. And the rocks that hit my windshield weren't even that big (judging by the sound of it I want to say in other cars I've gotten peppered by bigger rocks). And to add insult to injury, I kept extra distance from the car in front of me today (new habit since the last -my first ever- crack), just so some douchebag could cut in front of me to kick up that £#*&¥% rock that cracked my windshield ????
Same car same issue. Woke up to a big crack in my windshield that started right behind the mirror mount. I wash my car myself and I haven\u2019t seen a crack there.
Had once replaced the windshield on my previous car (Toyota) during 9 years and 120k miles. But with MY23 it’s already twice in 6 months. Been living in same area with similar driving routes and driving habits. Quality of windshield that tesla is using is certainly questionable.
i called bmw for a new windshield on my e60. 1400 in labor and 1400 for the windshield.
Hopefully you have better luck than I did. Had similar crack in a brand new 5 series(the car was only a few months old when it happened)and they wouldn\u2019t cover it. I had to go through my insurance and pay a small deductible. No other company did OEM BMW windshields in my area so I had to go the same dealership to get it done. Cost was around $2500
