Tires Tesla or DUNLOP

DUNLOP Tires

The Dunlop Direzza ZIII is worth looking into. A close friend has half a season of autocross and 4 time trial events (So about 17 twenty to 30 minute long sessions) on his ZIII in a 2013 NC and they still have life left. For autocross they're basically a less grippy Re-71R, but they come into their own on track.

Pros: long life, good on track
Cons: less grippy
Vehicle: Mazda

DUNLOP Tires

Once the q4s are over like, 70 degrees, or basically u ride a few miles on the turns gently, they'll be warm enough and will stick like glue.

Pros: stick like glue
Cons: square out quickly
Mileage: 1000 km

I have a RWD LR Model 3 so my reply is based solely on this. I have never considered any other EV so I can't tell you about them.

\- I drive my son all over Ontario, Quebec, and the northern US for his sports year round. Sometimes to very rural areas. You'd be surprised where you come across charging stations.

\- You can change your habits to allow more efficiency in the winter: schedule your charging to complete around the time you plan to leave, try to make sure your battery is warm when you drive (see first point), always make sure the battery is warm when you charge, use your heated seats more than your HVAC, lower your driving speed to match the speed limit, etc.

\- my personal experience (22k KM on my car) is that you will no doubt experience some range loss in the winter. The colder it is, the worse it is. I would say on average I lost about 30% last winter but some of that is due to my heavy foot on the clear days.

\- I have put winter tires on every car I've owned in the last 25 years. So yes - I have them on my Model 3 and yes it handles like a dream in the snow.

Pros: handles like a dream
Cons: 30% range loss
Mileage: 22000 km

Rating 2.0

First came with Michelin tires, had no complaints about them, second came with Dunlop's and they are trash. The tires are loud, and pick up rocks and small pebbles on the outer and inner edges of the tires, that don't fly out while driving. Tires have less than 15k km on them. It's caused some vibration and I've had to manually take them out from time to time.

Pros: no complaints about Michelin
Cons: loud, picks up rocks
Mileage: 15000 km
