I have been running the nitto ridge grapplers for the past 65k miles. They are, imo, not as loud as you would think and definitely have given me some amazing performance.they’ve only really gotten loud in that last few thousand miles when the tread was really worn down.
The best tire I have found is Nitto Grappler A/T. The set I’m on now has 77,000+ miles on them and I’m expecting to reach between 80 to 85.
Now I’m using Bridgestone Dueler HT 840 which is also great and comfortable and more sturdy than the Khumo.
Nitto (Toyo sister company) makes the Recon Grappler in some large SL rated sizes and they remain light at 40-50#s.
I just put these on our Commodore in 245/45R18. They replaced a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE003's. Initial impression is that they aren't any noisier than the Potenza's, possibly a bit quieter. Haven't driven in a heavy rain yet but the performance on slick roads was also good. My biggest concern is that they were going to totally spoil the handling but cornering at civilised speeds is still satisfying. Certainly they don't have anywhere near the dry grip of the Potenza's but they're fine for everyday use.
They ride great, have great traction in wet weather and do not seem to exhibit excessive wear. Well priced compared to Bridgestones and I have no complaints.
Super happy with them. Much quieter than expected and super grippy. Significantly lighter than the Falkans.
Oh and this in on new Bridgestone Weatherpeaks - I swapped out the stock trash - poor ratings even in rain - immediately.
Finally got rid of them. They slide in the lightest snow. They also only lasted me 35k miles.
Have had my CX-30 through one Minnesota winter thus far on the stock Turanzas. Got through fine, but the car was also only about 4-5 months old at that time. I have already noticed some issues going into my second winter, one semi snowy day where nothing accumulated and I was sliding through roundabouts and was a little nervous about going around bends in the road.
