i use 888's on the track, and couldn't be happier! they are the bomb. on the street, they are pretty damn loud, sounds, and feels like the car is on dyno rollers... you can use them daily, just refrain from pushing too hard in the wet - i have driven many times in the wet, but just took it easy and all was fine. on the track with some heat on them, they are unbelieveable, you just laugh at the grip and control especially if you are running coilovers and bbk.
The Toyo RA-1s were my first set of \"real\" track tires and wow, who knew that there was such a difference between high performance street and competition tires? They are excellent and are on my car 100% of the time since there's not much daily driving duty for my R32 anymore.
Yes I run the R888 and have been very happy with them. I mainly use my car for tarmac rallies and some of the events have been wet and the tyre still performs well though I wouldn't push extremely hard in the wet with them.
The r888 is starting to replace the RA1 herer in the US. They are fine in the wet until the tread gets to 4/32. At 4/32 the tire essentially becomes a slick with 2 grooves that go around the tire. They are great tires though! I have them on my track car and couldnt be happier.
I have the Michelin Pilot Sports PS2 and I am very happy with them. Superior tire!
I had BBS LM's on my 04 GTI (not an R32). 19x8.5 et 25 trying to remeber the tire size either 225/35/19 or 235/35/19.....i'm drawing a blank, but they where Toyo Proxy 4's and i liked them a lot.
i've got about 800+ mi. on a set of Exalto A/S (4 season) on my 4mo wagon and they are a far better tire than the stock Contis (i'll never buy Contis ever again. they NEVER balanced). great cornering and very good in the snow (ok, so it's a 4mo).
I got Michelin Pilot HX MXM 235R45/17 tires on my Eos with Lux. While this is much better than the Goodyear's, I thought it was supposed to have all season tires, not summer tires?
195/45/14 toyo proxes are splendid. I loved that set up.
It is an EXTREMELY common problem on Mk4's to show cupping on inside of rear tires even with everything at spec. After you rotate them, the \"good front\" tires on rear will then begin cupping also, and the noise problem will increase as they wear more... the rears will \"sing\" with the cupped fronts (formerly on rear) and you can get some pretty loud droning at low speeds, only becoming less noticable at high speeds.
