My Jetta had Altimax HP when i bought it. They rode very quiet and smooth, and helped return good fuel economy with a light foot. Not a sports tire but perfectly acceptable for normal driving.

Pros: quiet and smooth ride
Cons: not a sports tire

BRIDGESTONE Tires

I've experienced the Bridgestones on my Volvo for nearly two years, and am fairly impressed with their performance... for an all-season. Dry grip is great and treadwear is respectable.

Pros: dry grip is great

The general altimax is the tire I fit on all my sedans. I used to run the Goodyear assurance triple tread, but I feel these are sportier, and have better wet traction. The sidewall is a little soft, so I run a little higher pressure. Between an Acura CL, Audi A4 and JSW the altimax have never let me down.

Pros: better wet traction, sportier
Cons: sidewall is soft

I'm running General Exclaim UHPs on my E30, I think in the same side you're looking for. Some say the sidewall is too soft, but I think it's fine for me. Road noise is a little high though. Grip is very good in both the wet and dry.

Pros: very good grip, good in wet
Cons: road noise high
Vehicle: BMW

Here's what a 245/40-17 Bridgestone RE11 looks like after 18mths on the R - over 200 autox runs and 8k street miles. I run 40-44 PSI hot on a well setup car. Note that there's minimal indication of excessive scrub or rollover. These tires are wearing great and were good enough for top pax time in a 60 car field at a recent local event

Pros: wearing great, top pax time
Cons: none
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 12875 km

I just put on Bridgestone RE760 Sport's on my car about 250km's ago. I was looking for exactly what you are, good treadlife and good all-around performance for the occasional track day... I cannot say enough good things about this tire, it meets and exceeds all expectations that i have had thus far; and with 340 treadwear i expect these 205/40's to last for a good amount of time. You can't go wrong with this tire!

Pros: good treadlife, good performance
Mileage: 250 km

BRIDGESTONE Tires

As far as the Bridgestone tires, I have ran them for 2 years and they have been an excellent all season tire. They do everything well and easily beat the factory tires.

Pros: excellent all season tire
Cons: beat the factory tires

I've always just used Blizzak WS-50's but they do have a squishy sidewall. The Blizzak WS-60 or Revo 01 is a lot better. The Nokian Hakkapelliita's have a better sidewall too.

Pros: better sidewall (WS-60, Revo 01, Hakkapelliita)
Cons: squishy sidewall (WS-50)
