Gates Timing belt

Thanks for all of the replies everybody big help love the community I was able to source the parts I needed today timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and pink antifreeze there was green in my car so I flushed it out before I started to do the timing job, which btw took me 7 hours mannnn I’ve never done one of these before and looking at the DIY and YouTube helped a lot but it’s all done and can make it to work tomorrow. If I was off would have started this tomorrow morning I had no choice but to start today at 2:30. Took her for a drive sound was gone car feels great. Again thank you all!

Pros: sound was gone, car feels great
Cons: took 7 hours

Gates is the only aftermarket brand I'd trust; certainly don't go store-brand (autozone, etc).

Pros: trustworthy aftermarket brand
Cons: avoid store-brand
Vehicle: Honda

The pump and belt are good. All else in the kit is chinese parts. Been working fine for a year plus for me. I upgraded to the race belt for extra longevity.

Pros: pump and belt good
Cons: kit has chinese parts

I just completed this on my '13 a few weeks back at 68,000. Belt was still in good condition but as others noted, thats not the only point of failure and my roller bearings had some excessive play so I am glad I did it given the risk of letting it go.

Pros: belt in good condition
Cons: roller bearings excessive play
Mileage: 109436 km

I used a Gates timing belt and some other parts from an ECC kit (new water pump, tensioner, etc.) The timing belt looks tight and normal still

Pros: timing belt looks tight

Got the Gates belt installed, but I haven't been able to run the car long enough to know if the noise is fixed. I did notice when transferring the timing belts from the Conti belt to the Gates belt that the Conti belt is a fraction of a mm thicker.

Cons: Conti belt thicker
Vehicle: Audi TT

My preference over the past 25 years is ALWAYS OEM/Genuine whenever possible:

BMW - Continental

Ford/Domestic - ACDelco, Continental

I have had repeated problems with GATES fitment, stiffness, and longevity. 7 of the last 10 snapped timing belts I've pulled from cars have been GATES.

Pros: OEM parts are preferred
Cons: fitment, stiffness, longevity
