I gotta say that I like the feel of the rack more now than I ever have.
And if you lift up the rubber boot thats over the input shaft to the rack theres a ZF stamp.
If I remember correctly, that hex is only a "cover". The actual adjuster lies beneath. ZF racks are all female torx.
I had to replace my ZF steering rack. Prior to replacement the feel was prefect. Only thing is it is remarkably easier now, like way too easy. It feels like one of those early 90's vans where the power steering is overly assisted and has no feel.
this is starting to happen in the 2023 civic sport, the steering gets stuck a certain angle and its very annoying trying to keep the car straight on the highway. it seems to happen like 5 mins into a drive
I have a 2016 Civic ex-t. It has a bad sticky steering problem. Two different Honda dealerships have checked it. Both say there’s not a problem.
944 were notorious for leaky steering racks. We replaced many ZF steering racks in 944s back in the day. Usually when they went south, they would leave a sizeable puddle of ATF, underneath the car. Sometimes you need to pull the rack boots back, and the fluid would pour out.
If there's a lot of play or you can see visible leaks, you may need a new steering rack. It happens around that mileage on a lot of these, including mine at 174k. Replacing it requires dropping the subframe and is a PITA for whoever is doing it. 1.5k-2k for a shop to do it.
2022 EX, purchased in Jan 2022, but just began experiencing this issue in Dec 2022, roughly at 7000 miles.
I actually just had this problem and the dealership tech told me it was a faulty steering rack/pinion assembly. Had to get it replaced under warranty. Hopefully that issue doesn’t come back
