Spark plug Bosch or NGK

NGK Spark plug

I always change about 10%-20% earlier than recommended, because I want to keep my coils healthy. A set of NGK iridium is $40. I went with the NGK Ruthenium (92274) because they were on sale (same price as regular iridium).

Pros: keep coils healthy
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 80000 km
Part number: 92274

My 19 was the first year of a turbo for the GTR. I think they were being conservative with the 40k. I’ve been changing them at 60 and they look great. Just make sure you use the NGK (which is the Mazda brand as well).

Pros: look great, no issues
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 60000 km

NGK Spark plug

You can find the OE plug on the NGK site. Click on the Specifications tab to see the gap and torque value (0.8mm = 0.0315" and 18-21.6 lb. ft ) NGK plug for Arteon I bought the plugs from the dealer. I slightly re-gapped 2 of the 4 to meet spec, but expect that they would have been fine as was. My original plugs only had ~27k miles on them (but installed 7 years earlier) -- the originals came out easily and were in excellent condition.

Pros: originals came out easily, excellent condition
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 43452 km

Bosch Spark plug

Your observation is correct.

Bosch is the original manufacturer. Buying from them will be cheaper. Mercedes genuine just means they take the Bosch part and slap their name on it to say "yes, this component is up to our standard".

Pros: cheaper, original manufacturer
Cons: Mercedes mark up price

We have tested a handful of plugs and wires (not the Chinese knock off stuff, but big name “Proformance” ones) and from a dyno stand point, looking at HP and TQ specifically… none of the wires out performed the stock AC Delco wires and the plugs all were real close to the same with AC Delco being close to the bottom and NGK being toward the top but negligible differences.

Pros: HP and TQ tested
Cons: negligible differences

I own an Audi Q5 that takes the iridium plugs. I put the standard NGKs instead and they wore out within 10,000 miles.
