Shock absorbers Bilstein or KYB

Bilstein Shock absorbers

I used Bilstein 5100s forever on previous trucks and they worked well and gave me some added lift. I now run Bilstein 6112s in front and 5160s in the rear. More expensive set up but way better ride than any Rancho shock could give you.

Pros: worked well, added lift
Cons: more expensive

Did you test the ride quality at different ride heights? I think if you raised up about an inch you would see that these are vastly superior to stock suspension. I had mine moderately low then raised them up 3/4 inch and the ride quality is much better. I have B16s.

Pros: ride quality is better

I have B8 5100s in my 4Runner. Off-road or on-road I have never had an issue with them. I thought they were a noticeable improvement over my stock ride in terms of comfort, even with the 2" lift.

Pros: improvement over stock ride

KYB Shock absorbers

I also recently replaced the rear shocks. The rear shocks on the premium model with the adjustable controls are just stupid expensive, even from a dealer that sells at wholesale. Anyways, a GX owner found the KYB equivalent for $175 from Partsouq in Dubai. Ordered a pair plus new rubber mounts and installed those a few weeks ago.

Pros: KYB equivalent available
Cons: OEM shocks expensive
Vehicle: Lexus

The Bilsteins put somewhat of a level on it, and this may be a n00b question, but curious if they can be modified to add a couple inch lift to the truck? It could use it with the bigger tires.

Pros: levels the truck
