Shock absorbers Bilstein or KYB

Bilstein Shock absorbers

It might not matter, but those 5100’s are specifically valved for stock springs. I realize people put aftermarket springs on with them, but your best ride is going to be with stock.

Pros: best ride with stock

I put 5100's on my 2011 SR5, set it at the highest setting on the front with the stock springs. I put TRD springs on the back, which did raise the back a touch. The ride is harsher in the back and much better up front.

Pros: much better up front
Cons: ride is harsher

If you have the $, Bilstein 5100s run fantastic on Toyota pickup and 4wd/4runners. They are a little pricey but you'll feel the difference.

Pros: fantastic performance, feel the difference
Cons: a little pricey

I run KYB Monomax shocks on mine. They have a nice balance of a comfortable ride and weight support for towing. As an added bonus you get a lifetime warranty with them.

Pros: comfortable ride, weight support

Put on some KYB Excel-G shocks- avail at Rock Auto. Think I paid about $60/pair They’re Plain Jane (flat black) and the ones we got (lifted older SUV) doesn’t have the rubber boots that take on & hold water- happened several times to an old truck of mine.

Pros: affordable, plain jane
Cons: boots hold water

As for the continental kit affecting the handling, I really don't think it makes a difference, the handling is terrifying! There is a long 90 degree curve near me, and when I try to push the car thru it, I get body lean, tire squeal, and understeer that slowly gives way to a neutral attitude.

Pros: balances out the weight
Cons: terrifying handling, body lean

I'd personally recommend sticking to OEM (probably Sachs or Boge). My Bilstein warranty return rate since 2016 is close to 100%. B4, B6, B14. All of them. Quality fell off a cliff.

Cons: quality fell off
