I did the same thing a few years ago, the b6’s have held up and ride better than stock
Replace OEM Sport Suspension with OEM standard Springs, new Bilstein B4 Shocks - $1500
A 2” lift on Bilsteins 5100 shocks is the best bang for the buck.
Can't go wrong with billstein 5100's set at an 1 1/2 lift to get the extended travel out of em.
just did Bilstein B6s. I generally want an OEM feel, but tires are so much stickier now, so going B6 made sense.
Save the expense of paying for those shocks and go with Bilstein or Koni, buy the deflator/compressor and come out way ahead. Airing down makes a big difference.
I had a (similar) 2010 Golf 2.5 with B4s all around and they really can't be beat for the money. Slightly firmer ride than stock, nice handling, quite affordable.
For example I've got... Bilstein shocks/Koni Adjustable Shocks with Bilstein springs.
B4 is SE, I run B6 (oem sport height) on the rear and B8 (sport+) on the front with Eibach springs, this setup is low and will catch on some speedbumps.
I’m actually not a huge fan of the bilstein after having the 5100 on for a couple years now.
