Mann Oil filter

So my car has 86k on the clock and its an Edition 30 GLI. Great car by the way. I service it every 5k with Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro Formula (502.00 spec) with a MANN filter.

Pros: great car
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 86000 km

Mann Oil filter
Butcher
  • Leaks:
Rating 4.5

The 30 is the way to go. It's better in most every way and is not that much more. They use a better filter media and seals for a longer service life.

Pros: better filter media, longer service life
Cons: slightly more expensive
Part number: W719/30

Mann Oil filter

Mann & Mahle filters aren't all that expensive and since needing them won't be a surprise type event; buying them can be scheduled prior to need.

Pros: buying can be scheduled
Cons: aren't all that expensive

Fram Oil filter

I used a Fram XG3614 filter. Since cost is the same and there was plenty of room, I will use the next size up XG3600. Since I use this filter on other cars and the lawn tractor, I dont need to worry about different filter PNs either. Capacity bump should help any DIY'er stuck on 0w20 for 10k miles too.

Pros: capacity bump
Part number: XG3614

Mann Oil filter

I typically use Mobil 1, Valvoline, or Pennzoil fully synthetic 5W-30; whatever is on sale. I use a full synthetic and change it every 5000 miles.

Use a good quality oil filter too (not Fram). I typically use Napa Gold, Wix, Mahle, or Mann

Pros: good quality
Mileage: 8000 km

Fram Oil filter

I don't think Fram filters are all that bad. I've used them before with no problems. I have been scared away from them, though. There are much better filters out there for a couple more bucks. I have not read any horror stories on the 'tex about a Fram actually causing an engine to die, but maybe I have not looked hard enough.

Pros: used with no problems
Cons: better filters available
