I always used gn4 but switched to rotella t6 15w40 cheaper, full synthetic. it can handle the heat alittle better and I like the shift quality over gn4. Walmart has it for cheap

Pros: handle the heat better
Cons: cheaper, full synthetic

Shell Engine oil

Shell Rotella (Rimula) 10W40, mines on 165k, 6 months ago I did the O2 Pilot mod and started to use the above oil as it's fully synthetic and made for Buses, Heavy Trucks etc, and so has extremely good cleaning abilities. My oil consumption has dropped almost 4 fold and the cams, rockers, oil filter housing have all been cleaned of the varnish type coating they had too.

Pros: good cleaning abilities, reduced consumption
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 165000 km

Shell Engine oil

The oil type is likely fine, but the viscosity isn't. Ignore what the book says, get the 5W30 out of there. The PDs love to eat cams, and running 5W30 makes the problem worse. Me personally, I run Shell Rotella T6 5W40.

Cons: cams love to eat

Castrol Engine oil

Smedia had a video about this and he had more wear with less miles using Motul over Castrol in a Blackstone report. So for me just the convenience and price of Castrol edge I'd pick it over Motul. Knowing it had less wear wear was the nail in the coffin of buying overpriced and often several year old Motul.

Pros: convenience and price
Cons: more wear, overpriced
Vehicle: Subaru

Castrol Engine oil

I noticed when the castrol 508 spec wears. It smells Faintly of onions and beans. Strange smell indeed, when I took my car to street side VW out of Amarillo, Texas.

Pros: rated for 5 or 7.5k miles
Cons: smells of onions and beans
