I use castrol 5w-40 Euro on my 2006 Revup. Good oil pressure on hot SoCal days and burns less oil.

Pros: good oil pressure, less oil burn

I have an MX-5 with that engine, Mazda uses Castrol Edge 0w20 but you can use a heavier oil and sime say it reduces wear. The purpose of the 20 weight is fuel economy.

Pros: reduces wear
Cons: fuel economy
Vehicle: Mazda

So, the cause for VANOS to work as shit was an oil. I put Motul and engine drunk it like it was a water. After oil change to Castrol magnatec, engine works like a charm.

I use castrol as I’m Canadian and the price to get liquimoly is unacceptably expensive imo. But if you can get it at a decent price I’d go with that.

Pros: readily available
Cons: liquimoly is expensive

I'm using Castrol GTX 20W50 because it's the only 20W50 that I can easily find locally. I tried Rotella 15W40 but I found that it gave somewhat low oil pressure on my old engine.

Pros: easy to find locally
Cons: low oil pressure
