Engine oil Castrol or OEM Audi

Castrol Engine oil

Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 223000 km

Castrol Engine oil

I just buy oil with the certs for my car. VW certs are prominently labeled on oils approved by them. I usually use Castrol or Mobil 1.

Pros: prominently labeled

I’m definitely going to keep running Castrol Edge 0W-30 Synthetic European Formula. 10/10. It’s on the thicker 0W-30 side of things, so it really is somewhat of a 0W-35, it hits the spot when it comes to engine lubrication and protection when the engine is either cold or warmed up.

Pros: engine lubrication and protection
Vehicle: Nissan

I've been using the original castrol 10-60 oil and then more recently the BMW M TwinPower 10-60 oil for the last 10 years on my e46 M3.

Pros: long-term usage, positive experience
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 125000 km

Rating 4.0

I was running Castrol 0w30 European formula in my 07 323i and the car ticked a lot and made noises I’ve never heard it make previously when running 5w30. So recently I swapped to castrol 5w40 European formula and the car is whisper quite even on cold starts. It just sounds so much healthier.

Pros: car is whisper quite
Cons: car ticked a lot
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 300000 km

OEM Audi Engine oil

On my 1.8ts I usually change it when the motor blows up and has to be replaced. They used to last perpetually but builds have progressed to the "Yes it absolutely is going to grenade or window the block before 10k miles???? so really I only ever have to FILL oil 1 time???? I wish this was less true than it actually is. On the rest, (2.7tt and 4.2) 10k miles if you use good full synthetic oil and a nice filter

Pros: 10k miles with good oil
Cons: engines blow up before 10k
Mileage: 10000 km
