Brake pads Project Mu or OEM Honda

OEM Honda Brake pads

For years my brakes on my CRV squeaked. My dad replaced them. A few other people/shops worked on them. Still squeaked. I'm talking YEEEAAAARRRRRS. I resigned myself to being *that person* at every friggin stop light. Needed new brakes again. Unique situation as it was, the Honda dealership ended up doing it. It was like $500 but they stopped squeaking!!!! It was heavenly to be a silent stopper.

Pros: stopped squeaking
Cons: brakes squeaked for years
Vehicle: Honda

However, the biggest difference I've noticed was going from good brake pads to great ones. I recommend anything by Project Mu (I use their RC09 "Club Racer")

Pros: great brake pads
Vehicle: Audi
Part number: RC09

When I replaced the front pads and rotors, I went with the same OEM rotors from Brembo but upgraded to Project Mu Type NS-C pads. I have not yet swapped rears but I can see that there is significantly less dust with Project Mu pads and no squeal. Stopping power is great and I havent had issues.

Pros: less dust, no squeal, great stopping power

I have project Mu pads and rotors, front and back on my 33 GTR. They’re fantastic products. But be warned, they’re gonna squeak. Sometimes badly. Having said that, it’s *because they’re good* that they squeak. They’re pretty much racing brakes, and if you’re not hearing them up high enough, they’re gonna squeak. So be prepared for that.

Pros: fantastic products, good braking
Cons: squeaking, racing brakes

Honestly the OEM pads are fantastic in this car, I’ve been told by the guy that runs the xgen autocross page that the oem ones are fine for most street and autocross applications.

Pros: fantastic, fine for autocross

The brakes were so-so, and it had lots of torque steer, and benefited greatly from an aftermarket and much stiffer rear ARB, which improved its turn in and corner habits tremendously.

Pros: improved turn in, corner habits
Cons: so-so brakes, torque steer
Vehicle: Honda Prelude

My buddy's Honda ELF seized a caliper on the way down a mountain. By the time we found a place to pull over, the pad material had caught fire. That was exciting.

Pros: pad material caught fire
Cons: caliper seized
Vehicle: Honda
