I love my Geolandar's which came with the car. They do everything well. I do a lot of driving 10 to 40 mph over the speed limit. I would not hesitate to get them again. People always criticize whatever tires that came with their new cars but in this case not true.
Owner reviews for tires
40k for me, bought the slightly bigger continental lx 25. Never looked back.
After the first commute in the rain with the factory all seasons, I purchased a set of Michelin PSAS4. These have done remarkably well here in North Texas. I can highly recommend them. Recently I had my first “panic” stop and they were great. The only thing I won’t take them on is ice (which we get here) but a set of studded tires are a bit overkill here, and probably not legal, so I didn’t drive on the ice.
When I had my GLI, I immediately change the Hankooks out for Pirelli PZeros; they were way to stiff and made the car unstable. Swapped them out for Michelin AS 3+ which was a night and day difference. Relatively smooth and quiet ride, confident handling, excellent grip, good wet performance. I live in Southern California so I can't comment on snow. I used to have Contiental DWS06+ on my old 3 Series. Thats a great tire too, but more focused on comfort over the Michelin.
Just FYI, there’s a Michelin AS4 now. Much better ride, quieter and slightly better snow performance than the rough and loud AS3+ (I’ve had both on this car). Just note that any of these performance snow tires are not good snow tires by any stretch. If you’re in the Northeast, get proper snows. I’m in Austin and have them just for trips to NM, but wouldn’t want to use them for proper winters.
I forgot to put my Nokian winter tires on last season and my Michelin pilot sport AS3 tires did NOT remind me I was on all season tires during our ski country, lake effect snow ridden winter.
Just put the Continentals on my '19 GLI. Happy with them so far. they are top rated by Tire Rack customers. Replaced Michelin Pilot Sport which was very good on wet roads. Dumped the Hankooks not long after buying the car. Awful tires.
Our AS3 and my Continentals have historically worn smoothly, although the Michelin wear much better. Without really thinking about it I'm not sure how many miles we have on our AS3 but they are a lot of miles and even on the all-wheel drive car they have worn completely smoothly and evenly without a single hitch. Rotations with oil changes is all they get.
when you lose traction, it feels like it will never get to a stop (and that's with Nokian Hakkapeliittas).
I found the kinergy GT Tires that came with my 18 to be lack luster. Torwards the end of the life of the tires I thought they were junk. They were comfortable up until 30k miles. They wore down quick for me. 38k miles and they were at 2/32 left.
