The denso on my 02 4Runner started having issues at 255k. Replaced the brushes with new oem and it was good to go afterwards!

I would get a Denso or AcDelco reman, no cheap crap since they're a bit of a pain to replace.

I would rather do it once and have it last for 100k+ than to do that repair 2x.

Pros: last for 100k+
Cons: pain to replace
Vehicle: Honda Civic

Denso Starter motor

I just bought a new Denso Remanufactured starter from Rock Auto for my Type S. I even broke the thing and they sent me another one before even seeing it.

Pros: new, easy replacement
Cons: broke the thing

OEM Nissan Starter motor

I had one on my last two MTs (07 TL-S and 03 Maxima) and they both had am \"arming\" procedure to do before exiting the car, like spjoneSI said. Basically what it came down to was the car stayed running when you took the key out of the ignition, and turned the car off & armed the starter when you exited the car & shut the door. Doing that told the starter \"the car is stationary, brake engaged, & running - so it must be in neutral & safe to start.\"

Pros: worked well
Cons: door-sensitive-arming complicated
Vehicle: Nissan Maxima

Honda/Acura OEM starters are very quality parts (manufactured by Denso), and typically when they stop working it's just a ~20 dollar brush kit and some elbow grease to get them up and running again. Definitely better than aftermarket replacement parts.

Pros: very quality parts
Cons: aftermarket parts inferior
Vehicle: Acura

Bosch Starter motor

i also noticed that the starter is the original bosch and the positive power lead going to it has some of the insulation cut off right where the wire bends to screw to the starter.

Cons: insulation cut off
Vehicle: Volkswagen

About 2 weeks ago my bike started to struggle starting when the bike was hot. It acted like the battery was dead - which was a fairly new (3months) old) Lithium Ion Shorai Battery. I replaced the LiOn with the OEM battery (that's $500 in battery's and a LiOn charger). After much research online it seems this is a known issue with the Denso factory starter motor. The brushes wear unevenly, and quickly.

Cons: brushes wear unevenly, quickly
Mileage: 10000 km

My wife's '06 Range Rover Sport suddenly wouldn't start, just a loud clack, sounds like coming from the starter solenoid. I've worked my way to the starter, I'm thinking it's a bad connection to starter, solenoid contacts, maybe even the starter.

Cons: loud clack, won't start
Vehicle: Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Part number: 428000 1921
