OEM Mercedes Starter motor

I have a very loud starter noise on my SL65’s V12, it’s an electric whirr, sounding pretty much the same as the Veyron’s starter. I like it very very much

Pros: loud starter noise, electric whirr

OEM Toyota Starter motor

Lotsa fuss over a starter that can last 150k especially an oem one. and although the manifold is heavy comes off super quick. easily a triple time job or more if you're flat rate

Pros: starter can last 150k
Cons: manifold is heavy
Vehicle: Toyota
Mileage: 241401 km

AC DELCO Starter motor

On an LS motor, IIRC, it's a rather easy DIY job, if you buy one outside the dealer you may be able to buy one cheaper but get a good quality one, like an AC Delco which is OEM.

Pros: good quality, cheaper price

GENERAL MOTORS Starter motor

Mom had an Envoy XUV for 10 years, only issue in that period was the starter, gauge cluster stepper motor, and the divider window motor. I had a Trailblazer SS for four years, would still have it if I hadn't sold it to buy my house, but in that time I did front hubs, steering wheel position sensor and a pass side wheel speed sensor. That was it. ZERO other issues.

Pros: zero other issues
Cons: starter issue, gauge cluster stepper motor issue, divider window motor issue

Always try to get quality brands like Bosch. They always seem to last forever and they replace anything that is worn internally too so you can almost guarantee it will last.

Pros: last forever, quality brands

I ordered a used OEM starter for about $60. Because of time restraints and school, I finally got it replaced this past Friday and it works perfect now. The starter isn't sticking to the flywheel when starting now.

Pros: works perfect now
Cons: initial aftermarket starter
Vehicle: Honda Civic

I ran the smaller mk3 starter for many years, and it was fine, but now that I have a new-to-me car with the original starter still in it- I prefer that one. It never bogs down, seems to have more torque.

Pros: more torque, never bogs

Bosch Starter motor

It killed what is left of my soul but I mickey moused it. All the starters that match at the parts stores (bosch, ac delco etc) lack the correct plug. Used a couple ugly .250" flat connectors. how embarassing.

Cons: lacks correct plug
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf

OEM Volkswagen Starter motor

Ive noticed during the day on a lunch run, when I release the pedal to pull away from a stop sign or light, the engine judders hard and lunges me forward somewhat aggressive. I think this feature really puts a strain on the starter too.

Cons: engine judders hard
Vehicle: Volkswagen Tiguan
