OEM BMW Catalytic converter

CAT aging is a real issue with N53s even at this mileage. Leaking injectors can cause damage to cats + some of these can burn oil especially when revved. Mine does like 1L every 5000km which seems fine according to BMW.

Pros: oil consumption seems fine
Cons: CAT aging, oil burning
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 5000 km

OEM KIA Catalytic converter

The one I got a few weeks ago was from a dealership in Florida and was unopened, in the bag with the Kia seal on the outlet end of the cat. DON’T get aftermarket when OE is available for this price. Trust me.

Pros: unopened, Kia seal, good price
Cons: aftermarket not recommended
Vehicle: Kia Soul
Part number: 28510-2BEF1

OEM Mazda Catalytic converter

I had the same issue with a 2016 CX5. Dealer overfilled the oil. Drove home20 minutes at 30-40 mph with no problems. The next morning my wife got on the highway and the dash lit up like a christmas tree. Smoke from the exhaust and oil residue from the tailpipes and on the rear hatch. Let the car sit for about an hour and drove back to dealership at low speed. They drained and changed the plugs. Still have the vehicle. No lasting effects on the engine. It does need a converter.

Pros: no lasting effects on engine
Cons: needs a converter
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 17000 km

OEM Toyota Catalytic converter

The 2AZ-FE 4 cylinder comes to mind. It came with defective rings and pistons that make it prone to burning too much oil. This in turn also makes it have an early failure of the catalytic converter due to the oil clogging it.

Pros: Mobil 1 full synthetic oil
Cons: burning too much oil
Vehicle: Toyota Camry
Mileage: 200000 km
