You can get a Walker brand catalytic converter on Rockauto for around $300. It's an exact fit for the crown vic or grand marquis. I paid a shop $150 to install it. They wanted to see the part first, to make sure it wasn't hollow or some junk. These are legit, and I've had it on one of my Grand Marquis for two years so far. The old one was rattling and blocking the exhaust.

Pros: exact fit, legit part
Cons: old one was rattling

FWIW - I daily my v8 R and it’s awesome. Mine is still under original warranty, it did have the cat fail which was covered under warranty and would have been pricey otherwise.

Pros: awesome, covered under warranty
Cons: cat failure, pricey otherwise

MAGNAFLOW Catalytic converter

I recently bought an 86 and got it CA smogged after it sat for 10 years. Did a rebuilt kit for the stock carb, Walker Hitachi DFB306. Had to get a new CA compliant cat which I went with the Magnaflow 339104.

Pros: CA compliant
Vehicle: Suzuki Samurai
Part number: 339104

apparently they ruin their cat converters, mines just had its 3rd one fitted, 94k miles and no real problems so far, but the savings in road tax make up for it assuming you get a good unit.

Pros: savings in road tax
Cons: ruin cat converters
Vehicle: Peugeot 208
Mileage: 94000 km

OEM Nissan Catalytic converter

Dumb thing threw a check engine light on while driving home from the shady used car dealer. Threw a bunch of parts at it to try and fix the misfiring issue, only to give up and have a shop diagnose it who told me that one of the cats was not smog legal.

Cons: not smog legal
Vehicle: Nissan
