If out of warranty,WALKER brand is good for replacement, skip the well known high advertised brands, higher price does not equate to better.
Owner reviews for catalytic converter
The only real issue I’ve had is a failed cat converter at about 1000 miles, must have just been a bad one from the factory. Fully covered under warranty anyway.
Catalysts are another one, I can’t buy magnaflow/walker cats that reasonable anywhere local, I’ll wait if the customer is good with it for the savings.
If you checked the plugs and coils it's likely to be a clogged catalytic converter. The age of the car is right for this. This happened to me on my 2001 a few years back.
Went through a new cat and new AC compressor around 200k.
I had a 2019 Kia Rio S bought new. It was a spunky little car that I could get about 40 mph on. Had no issues with it until it hit about 5 years old at about 80k miles with an engine misfire. Took it to my mechanic and they couldn't get it to happen again. A few thousand miles later, catalytic converter started going bad.
in my experience Fords have been reliable as just about anything else I have driven including my explorer ive gotten to 220k with the biggest repair being a cat.
Replaced original manifold cat last December with OE Kia--that cost about $2200 doing it myself. After 5K miles I was getting a pending P0420. Endoscope showed cat inlet center section bubbling...looking like melting had started.
Around August 12th my son was driving my vehicle and my motor blew!! I was truly lucky they were able to to get Kia to replace motor but the damage was already done to my catalytic converter so they said I had to replace that!
The vehicle started losing acceleration power so we took it in and was told the catalytic converter was bad and needed to be replaced at a total cost of $4,500. I explained to the service manager that the vehicle began consuming excessive amounts of oil. I explained that the vehicle was serviced by them and that I wasn’t paying that amount for a catalytic converter just for it to fail again due to a more deeper issue with the engine.
