I was using Mobil 1 fully synth 5w40 on my old cab with no problem at all. good pressure at idle and at 2k. I used this oil in my new cab (same engine) and boom! No oil pressure at for the first 15 secs. Then it immediately jumped to 5 bars and finally settled down to 1 bat maybe less. However, I saw a dramatic increase in oil pressure even with the 5W40 mobil 1 when I switched to a 2L oil pump. Idle pressure was arround 2bars. Although I used it last summer and it worked just fine throught my vacations in Greece.
I'm currently happy with Mobil 1, 15w50, except when it comes time to pay for it, yikes that stuff is pricey. First time I ran the Mobil 1, guess what happened?? Oil light flicker at hot idle. Replaced the low pressure switch, no more flicker. That switch didn't change characteristics just because I changed oil, the fresh oil was thinner, oil pressure decreased.
I used mobil 1 5w30 when I did the 10K oil change as well.
my v6 consumed almost a quart during the first 3,000 miles then it stopped (zero oil consumption!).
Fellas, Don't bother running Mobil1 for extended period of time. I have done 2 consecutive oil tests on Mobil1 0W-40. One with 6200 miles and the other was at 4700 miles. Used OEM filters in both cases. Results: With the 6200 mile drain interval, the iron and the lead levels were up there through the roof! With the 4700 mile drain interval, the iron was within average and the lead was couple of points above the average.
No you aren't a guinea pig. I have been doing extended drain interval for several years now on a chipped 1.8T. I run M1 5W-30 and average 17-20k between oil changes and currently have 200k miles on my '02.
I've always used Mobil1 0W-40 and never had oil-related problems. In fact, my Dad used it exclusively in his 1988 Chevy S-10 pickup and only changed his oil once a year for the life of the truck. Today it's still running strong on the original engine with over 200k miles on it. And that's only changing the oil ONCE A YEAR!
use M1 0w-40 in my girls Beetle S. works like a charm. currently i'm using AMSOIL 5w-40. going to switch to M1 0w-40 after this.
im running 5-30 mobil 1 full syn. ive notice the car is QUIETER with less valve noise, its been 2000 miles so far on the syn oil, and its still clear, lookin got 8-10K outta it...
i got a little valve clatter when i went to 0w40 on my next oil change i'll be using 5w40 (synthetic)
