I don't have a lot to add about 18s, but my 225 45 17 Michelin Xices are great
30K miles on my A/S3's on the Mini. They still grip reasonably well in the dry; the wet is iffy. While there is still treadlife left, the tire howl has becoming bad. They were nearly silent when new.
I reluctantly put the A/S 3's on my Corrado 2 years ago. My preferred Nitto 555 was NLA in my size. I can honestly say that the all season Michelin is every bit the Z-rated summer only Nitto in 99% of my driving. I will be getting these again for sure. It's a can't lose tire and does live up to it's billing.
I'm not a tire snob, but I will add these to points on my current experience with the A/S 3: Great balance between handling and comfort IMO At about 21k miles of use, mine are well worn- I will likely replace these at only 25k or so. I'm curious if others have had similar experience.
I did 215/45/18 xice3 on OE wheel for more sidewall, If I did it again I would do stock size 2254018. I lost a little bit of responsiveness/ punch from the 1/2\" taller overall diameter and also some curb protection from the 1/2\" narrower tire.
Never had the Dunlops, but I had the AS/3 on my old Avant. They were fantastic. Not a peep of tire noise and hardly any howl in corners compared to the OE Pirelli P6.
They are trash.
Buy some Michelins and be happy.
but the Xi2s were amazing.... and then very quickly wore from being great, to being really really poor. Like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde over the course of about 3500kms....... they should have had another 1-2 full seasons on them but IMO they did not wear well after 2 seasons.
I had really only planned on getting pss so it didn't really matter
