Agree with everybody on here, change your battery - I had similar problems and others not mentioned, changed the battery and almost all problems disappeared.

Pros: problems disappeared

OEM Volkswagen Thermostat
phaetonjohn
 • Overheating:
Rating 4.0

Bruce and I and my Dad replaced the thermostat, timing belt, water pump, and thermostat on the P. All went well, except that VW doesn't know how to do their job very well and got the wrong pulleys. But they did get everything else correct, and for a good price too.

Pros: good price
Cons: wrong pulleys

Exide Battery

AGM power supply/comfort battery replaced. Overall it went without a hitch. I had the choice of an Exide or a Varta AGM from Tayna Baatteries. The Exide with a price discount was about £10 cheaper than the Varta, so I chose that one at £133 delivered.

Pros: cheaper price, easy install
Cons: clamp back in position

OEM Volkswagen AC condenser
Phaetonlvr
 • Cooling at speed:
Rating 3.0

During the rebuilt I installed a new condenser, new O-rings, new accumulator (drier), new orifice tube w/ new O-rings. Then I vacuumed down the AC system for half a day and since it was holding vacuum fine I recharged it with straight R134a (no sealer chemicals). It seemed to work fine in the beginning but that was when it wasn’t that hot outside and now in the summer heat I can tell that something is not working right. The symptoms are usually delayed cooling by up to 15 minutes and even then it seems to cool for a while and then blows warm again.

Pros: holding vacuum fine
Cons: delayed cooling, blows warm
Vehicle: Volkswagen Phaeton

CARGLASS Windshield

Work was done at Carglass Spaanse Polder. First of all, they couldn't mount the rainsensor. Would do it later... When driving the car home, the most terrible lights went on and off, the car stopped, would not start anymore and had to be towed to the Dealer. The cause of this all was a (earth?) cable that had been cut when removing the windshield.

Cons: cable cut, car stopped
