I have been very pleased with the 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin. This car just passed 110,000 miles. Even with sometimes aggressive daily driving over the last 7 years this drivetrain has required no repairs and still seems to perform about as well as it did the first year.
Volkswagen Passat parts reviews
I've had good luck with Conti Pro Contacts in the past and am currently running the Conti Pure Contact. Also had a good experience with Pirelli P7 on a past vehicle.
I just installed EBC slotted rotors and Akebono ceramic pads front and rear on my '15 Passat. You can believe I will be warrantying them replacing them through FCP when the time comes.
The OEM Conti's get dogged pretty good on here, and they are not good if you want to tear around. They do cruise really nicely though, and I find them excellent in inclement weather. I am clearly going to get at least 60k out of mine minimum, so I'm considering them as replacements as well.
I have put General Altimax tires on my older hatchback and think they're pretty good.
I've had my black/black 2020 R-Line for 2 months and ~3.5k miles now. I work in sales, and it's great for visiting and entertaining customers. I'd give it a 8/10. Pros: LED headlights are excellent Comfortable ride when cruising on the expressway Comfortably fits four 6-ft plus adults Nice sporty lines for such a large car MPG Lane assist and ACC Huge trunk (for beer league hockey on weekends) Remote start (this'll be huge in the winter) Well appointed for the price Cons: Brakes... no linear feel. It's nothing nothing nothing, then STOP Engine is under powered for a car this size Automatic transmission wants to move too fast for my liking when you release the brake at a stop No visual TPMS (one of my biggest VW gripes. I want to know the actual pressure) Seats don't offer much bolstering, and no lumbar support in the passenger seat Wish the steering wheel telescoped out more. I'm 6'3\" and for ideal leg-room, my arms are nearly at full lock. R-line wheels... they just aren't appealing to me
I use Mahle filters in both my VR6 and 2.5 from first oil change. No issues.
My wife drove her 2008 Passat 2 miles per day for six years. As you can imagine, during these very short drives in winter, the oil became diluted - this was born from sever UOAs. So, I changed the oil every 1,500 miles and the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Over-kill perhaps but based upon my personal expectations, worth the time and money. We used Mobil 1 0W40....which sheared to a 0W30 fairly quickly and stabilized.
I bought a Mishimoto upgraded radiator. As far as I could find at the time, the only major concern about the Mishimoto radiator was that they had a penchant for leaking at the quick-connects machined into the inlet and outlet.
Upon only 3 days of ownership, the alternator went out due to the battery going bad, that took out the internal voltage regulator.
