Continental Tires

  • Grip:
  • Noise:
Rating 5.0

I'm running VikingContact7 on the wife's Passat, and I have Hakkapeliitta R3 on my Alltrack. I figure when the R3 get replaced next fall VikingContact7 will replace them. They are excellent on snow and ice and very quiet. I've driven thru stuff on them that after I get thru I realize I probably should have been more careful, but didn't notice a thing a the time. I don't do that with the Hakkapeliittas.

Pros: excellent on snow and ice, very quiet

OEM Volkswagen Heater core
Anderslam33
  • Cabin heat:
Rating 5.0

Finished the flushing of the coolant system 3 times today then replaced the heater core. Refilled with VW G13 coolant, burped the system, ran it up to operating temperature and voilà, consistent heat once again.

Pros: consistent heat

Continental Tires

  • Grip:
  • Noise:
  • Ride comfort:
Rating 4.5

another one for DWS06+. I put them on my Passat this past spring. They are absolutely comfortable. I don't believe there is much noise from them; maybe I'm unaware or maybe i dont look for it? But I can certainly attest for the comfort and grip. They are still on my car, and we've had some 1*C weather these past few mornings. Still very grippy when quickly merging out of side streets, and grippy when taking onramps. Had previous experience with DWS06 on my old 3G TL. Really liked them then also. That was the only car i've owned and didnt have dedicated winter tires for. The DWS were great in the winter time, and gave me no trouble in souther ontario winters.

Pros: absolutely comfortable, good grip, great in winter

OEM Volkswagen Valve cover
Wolf Mxbee
  • No leaks:
Rating 3.0

Today I thoroughly went through and around the block and finally found a leak which is common on the back side of the valve cover and sourced it all the way towards the front corner that’s hidden in the opening between the valve cover and timing cover so needs a new valve cover, and possibly a new coil as cylinder 1 was mis firing and probably from the oil getting onto the coil

Pros: found valve cover leak
Cons: cylinder 1 misfiring
Vehicle: Volkswagen Passat

KONI Strut assembly

Since you mention winter...I would stay away from the STR.T line. I bought them a few years ago for my Passat and after the first winter the things started to rust. The problem is the paint; it's garbage - I don't think they were primed, just sprayed orange. Maybe it's a cost-savings area but after the first winter the paint was flaking all over and after the second there was little paint left and heavy surface rust (big time pitting) everywhere.

Cons: paint is garbage, heavy rust
