Bilstein Shock absorbers

  • Bottoming:
Rating 5.0

My plan is to get the Eibach Pro-Kit with Bilstein B8 shocks/struts for my 2017 Golf Sportwagen. It's a decent amount of lowering 1.4" front and 1.2" rear. A lot of great reviews here and elsewhere on this combination.

Pros: great reviews, decent lowering

Pilkington Windshield

Just had mine replaced in my 2019. Used Pilkington as well and I can’t tell the difference from the OEM glass.

Pros: same as OEM glass

Castrol Engine oil

I got some Castrol Edge Titanium FST 0W40 which is VW502 00 approved. I decided to try this oil as their name is on the oil filler cap, as in the past with other cars I always used Mobil 1 0W40.

Pros: VW502 00 approved

OEM Volkswagen Expansion tank
agentphish
  • No leaks:
Rating 4.5

Good news is that none of the sensors leak out from the O-ring seal with the new tank, so I do think there could have been a problem with the yellowed out old tank, perhaps slightly warped/deformed.

Pros: no leaks from seal

OEM Volkswagen Throttle body
ecirwin
  • Throttle response:
Rating 3.0

I am doing the same thing right now to replace my throttle body (apparently the electronics or mechanism are toast). I have removed the throttle body a few times and it is one of my least favorites.

Cons: one of my least favorites

NANKANG Tires

I had been looking for a secondhand setup and got a great deal on these. I likely would not have chosen the Nankangs myself. Wet traction is awful, and I break loose from stoplights in dry conditions really often.

Cons: awful wet traction
