Pilkington Windshield

Rating 4.0

Some Outback owners are already on their 3rd or 4th windshield in 2 years. So far the only solution is to demand a non OEM third party window replacement. Owners who can convince the insurance to use Pilkington glass for a replacement are having far less issues.

Pros: less issues with Pilkington
Cons: OEM glass is problematic

My first two windshields were Carlex brand, and they were trash. Both chipped multiple times from minor rock chips that ended up spiderwebbing even after repair. Anything has to be better than Carlex.

My 3rd and current windshield is Pilkington and so far seems great. Shrugged off a pretty nasty rock hit with barely a scuff.

Pros: shrugged off rock hit
Cons: chips, spiderwebbing after repair

Replaced with my current glass which is Pilkington and it's been like 7 months without chips or cracks, which is the longest I've had an immaculate windshield in the entire time I've owned the car.

Pros: no chips or cracks

My 2018 Outback needed a new windshield already and Subaru says to use only Subaru OEM glass because it's made for the EyeSight cameras. They say it needs re-calibration also.

Pros: OEM glass made for cameras
Cons: needs re-calibration

my subaru outback 2010 (way new) got a rock chip which overnight turned into a 3 foot long crack. i called Subaru, they wanted 450 for the glass plus installation. i laughed at them. went to safelight, they used Carlex, with the heated windshield element (option on my car) it was Subaru OEM glass, without the logo, replaced for $350.00. i will use them any day any time.

Pros: Subaru OEM glass, good price
Cons: Subaru expensive glass
