Replaced my Glass I had had my windshield replaced when I took delivery of the car. The front glass was scratched. Appears someone wipe down the glass when detailing and scuffed it up. Dealer installed OEM glass and no alignment was required. The bill was $600 but the dealer took care of. Everything works fine.

Pros: OEM glass, everything works

Recently had the Windshield replaced on our 18 R. We insisted on VW glass. Only thing I've noticed is some slight oozing of the goo inside. We didn't have it recalibrated and the lane departure works fine as do the Adaptive Cruise.

Pros: VW glass, lane departure works
Cons: slight oozing of goo
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf

Recently had my windshield replaced due to large crack from rock. 2017 golf R with DAP. I went to the dealer to have it done, but they do have to have a \"window\" company come in as they do not install glass. However, with the OEM front windshield and install I paid $540 otd. I think with the OEM glass and an installer they has done these before, which I did check beforehand, I think that's a pretty good price. No calibration was required as I used OEM glass which contains required guides for DAP install. So far no issues and DAP related features working just as before.

Pros: OEM glass, good price
Cons: no calibration required

got the windshield replaced today at safelite and everything went well...go with VW - its really not much more expensive. ensure that the camera/rain sensor details show up with the glass version. this glass comes equip with the glass-side hardware pre-installed that allows for the interior camera housing and trim to fasten/lock into it.

Pros: glass-side hardware pre-installed
Cons: potential damage
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf

Well, my windshield has been replaced! I am wondering though... Did they install a right hand drive windshield? LOL, I don't even think that there would be one in the country, but this is VW . If you look you will notice that the VW logo is now on the driver\u2019s side.

Cons: logo on driver’s side

Yes I too have experienced the windshield cracking right down the center from the top behind the rearview mirror. The dealer told me that it must have been a rock but there was definitely no point of impact and it cracked while parked in a parking lot at work.

Cons: cracking right down the center
Vehicle: Volkswagen Beetle
Mileage: 5000 km

The OEM windshields are very weak and prone to rock chips. My 07 3.6 4motion wagon got several chips within the first year of owning it. my 08 3.6 4motion wagon also got a chip within the first month of owning it. My BMW 328i have been hit harder (i.e. going faster speeds) and never had a chip. the shop that patched both of my wagons up said they work on many vw's with chips. They say VW uses a thinner glass to lower the weight, thus causing it to chip easier.

Cons: very weak, prone to chips, thinner glass
