The all metal pierburg water pumps last longer than the plastic ones.
I'd recommend looking at an upgraded Pierburg water pump. None of the plastic bits & will save you from replacing it again in a few years.
Have installed many pierburg Full alum cast pumps as well with good results. The Pierburgs are made in china FYI
I have a 2013 GTI with 105k on my original water pump, no issues
Pierburg water pumps are known to be good for about 60-80k, which is the usual time they fail (they either leak or the electronics inside fail).
You'll need to keep an eye on the coolant bottle level, the water pump has been known to leak and need replacement.
Had a 2016 GTI and went through two water pumps before the car hit 90k miles. Both covered under the extended warranty VW has on them. They’re a known failure part at this point.
My mk7 water pump went out at 76k and will probably need to be done soon I’m at 135k now. I live in the heat of arizona too. It really gets tested here.
The water pumps are plastic. Heat and plastic don’t go well together. My MK6 has had at least 3 water pumps and sitting at 120k.
My 2012 GTI has 175,000 Kms and is on Water pump #4.
