With these cars, it’s less so staying on top of the regular service items from the dealer - and more so staying educated on all the little unspoken chickenshit maintenance items that VW doesn’t outwardly talk about.
I actually just changed the pump on my 2018. With the pump/thermostat assembly, and a collection of specific tools, it cost me ~$900. I was quoted 2k by a dealer so I saved a good chunk of change. All-in-all the job is straightforward, save plenty of headache with disconnecting hoses and wire clips.
I wish I knew myself before my overheating probs with the failed first gen water pumps from toyota. Once the new pump was in the engine would work really well when it comes to heating and cooling.
My 17 S is sitting at 108k. Only issues I’ve had outside of normal maintenance has been a water pump at 102k and cam magnets at 103k. It’s been the model of reliability and its nearly still as tight as it was when new.
No problems other than the water pump
Welcome to the club of probably needing to replace your water pump & thermostat housing 🫡
Mine started going out at ~165k in 2023. 05 Prius. I mostly drive less 5miles at a shot, and it would toss a code if driven much more than that and it was hot
Only thing that ever went wrong with it in 5 years of ownership was the water pump
The only thing that I have resented paying for are water pumps which appear to need frequent changing. My comments all apply to UK models.
it ain't a piece of shit VW water pump - the impeller isn't made of plastic composite!
